The Double Editor

-----------------

Written for Bifaro11 June 2005.

For use with MULTIFACE 128 by Romantic Robot

Works in conjunction with Scanatron's 'The Double' and ZX Spectrum 48k.

If your emulator supports Multiface you must select it. For example,

on Spin emulator you must check the box at...

Tools>Options>Peripherals>Multiface

If you don't have the ROM for the Multiface(mf128.rom) you can find

it at Philip Kendall's 'The Spectrum ROMs collection' site.

and this must be placed along with your other ROMs.

Instructions for use

--------------------

Rules for a successful load on Spin emulator

--------------------------------------------

Load the tape and you will eventually see the face of a very handsome

looking chap along with the message 'Enable Multiface - Press Any key'

DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY YET!

At this point enable the Multiface (F5 on Spin). Once enabled press

'R' to exit Multiface and *NOW* press any key to reset the Spectrum.

You can now load your copy of Scanatron's 'The Double' in the normal

fashion. Once 'The Double' is loaded, you can activate the Editor

by initiating the Multiface (F5 on Spin).

After installing the editor into Multiface and loading up your copy

of 'The Double' my advice is to do the following...

1. Proceed in the normal fashion to the MAIN MENU in 'The Double'

2. Now intitate the editor (F5 on Spin) and make any changes required.

3. Exit the editor and return to 'The Double'

4. SAVE a snapshot of your updated 'The Double'

Do NOT use this Software :-

i) From the time that you start a match until returning to the Main Menu.

ii) After the Player Transfers have started.

Using The Editor

----------------

When you initiate the Multiface you will be presented with a main

menu. Simple enough, select either 'Edit Teams' or 'Edit Players' to

make changes. Pressing 'Q' at this point will return yourself to

'The Double'.

Edit Team

---------

You can edit the team of your choice (Maximum 16 characters)

Edit Players

------------

The whole team must be entered in one go. (Maximum 12 characters per player)

After entering the team you then have the option to change the

TEAM COLOURS.

Keys:-

------

6 - Scroll DOWN through options

7 - Scroll UP through options

ENTER - Select Option

Q - Return to 'The Double' (Main Menu Only)

In Team/Player Edit Mode:-

--------------------------

A-Z A-Z

CAPS SHIFT+0 Delete

CAPS SHIFT+C c (Lower case c ie. McVEY)

SYMBOL SHIFT+7 ' (Apostrophe)

SYMBOL SHIFT+J - (Hyphen)

SYMBOL SHIFT+M . (Full Stop)

Planning your team

So far when entering teams I haven't encountered problems with space

as a team made up with names of reasonable varying lengths usually

fits without problems. Trying to enter a team full of 11 character names

however will obviously not be successful and the 'old' team data will

be restored.

Length of Name Compressed Size

1 1

2 2

3 2

4 3

5 4

6 4

7 5

8 5

9 6

10 7

11 7

12 8

Example:

Conway (length = 6 will compress to 4 bytes)

Davenport (length = 9 will compress to 6 bytes)

Jairzinho (length = 9 will compress to 6 bytes)

Krol (length = 4 will compress to 3 bytes)

As you edit a team you will be told the current 'Bytes Free' at the

top of the screen. As you enter each player this figure will decrease

accordingly but not in normal fashion. This figure is a 'Compressed'

figure ie. you enter a name which is 8 characters long, the bytes

free will reduce by 5.

Should you run out of space when entering a team then not to worry,

the previous team data will be restored.
